REDEEMING GRACE
A.M.E. Zion Church

News

Our annual event called Taking it to the Streets began on October 27, 2011 with the final service on Sunday October 30, 2011. Our very own, Bishop Darryl B. Starnes Sr. was the Preacher for this Evangelism Focused Revival, Come as you are. The teaching came out of Isaiah 55 titled, "God's Invitation". During the week, 7 people gave their lives to Christ either in a first time acceptance of salvation, or in rededicating their lives. As we went in to the community on Saturday, we praised God for the people we met who were warm and receptive. While the teams went out to share our vision and God's love for the area, the intercessory prayer team stayed at the Church praying for our safety and the Holy Spirit to move and touch those we met. What a joy was had by all of those that participated! From this outreach, we have seen an increase in awareness and participation, All Praise to the Lord Jesus!

The 2011 National Night Out was one to remember. We served BBQ chicken, borracho beans, potato salad, drinks and ice cream for dessert. We had volunteers from the church and people from the surrounding community. We had Noah's Ark puzzles and other children's books which were used as a winning prize and every child was winner who participated in musical chairs. We had Boston creams pies, cake rolls, and freshly made brownies that were used as prizes for the adult cake walk. There was music, dancing, and lots of fun.

The Youth Ministry provided the Sunday Morning Worship. From the opening prayer to the benediction the youth served willingly and with smiles. Under the leadership of Sis. Stephanie Hale this youth ministry is growing spiritually and physically. We are looking for even more on the next time we are treated to their leading worship.

On 2010 National Night Out, the first Tuesday evening in October, we take meeting our neighbors seriously. We started out just going out and shaking hands, the next year we BBQ'd hot dogs and played some games. The 2010 National Night Out, we provided a full meal, BBQ Chicken, baked beans, potato salad, roll, drinks and dessert. We had games like musical chairs for the younger children and gave out bags of school supplies to every child that came. We played some Bible trivia with boxed chocolates for the winners, and the big hit of the evening was the cake walk! We are continuing this event as one way to let people know that we are there and we care.
